IALA STRATEGIC VISION

PURPOSE

The aim of IALA is to foster the safe, economic and efficient movement of vessels, through improvement and harmonisation of aids to navigation worldwide and other appropriate means, for the benefit of the maritime community and the protection of the environment.

STRATEGIC DOMAIN

The term ‘Marine Aid to Navigation ‘ means a device, system, or service, external to a vessel,  designed and operated to enhance safe and efficient navigation of all vessels and/or vessel traffic.

The organisation shall have a consultative, recommendatory, and technical nature.

Support the UN Sustainable Development Goals

IALA recommends that National members and other Marine Aids to Navigation authorities responsible for the provision of Marine Aids to Navigation endeavour to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implement formal systems to protect the marine environment and promote sustainability to minimise their impact on the world’s resources.
