Understanding and assessing navigational risk is vital to meet international maritime and regional marine spatial planning obligations, which seek to minimise the risk of accidents, protect the marine environment, and ensure the efficient operation of shipping routes. Taking into account the needs of mariners and infrastructure developers, and the requirements and constraints of Marine Aids to Navigation (AtoN) authorities, IALA regularly offers the opportunity to exchange and compare related experiences and developments.
